Empathy No. 055

ALLISON: Jason, is Roderick here?

JASON: I guess, I mean - some of his stuff's out here, he must have beat me home.

ALLISON: So you're sure he's been here the whole time?

JASON: I don't know, his door's closed so I-

ALLISON: All right, so his Mom's not home yet, right?

JASON: She's probably be here in a few...Allison, what's the deal?

ALLISON: I'm planning something out. Brooke's in her room?

JASON: Is this gonna be about another sex thing? Oh geez, is this about Carlie again?

ALLISON: As a matter of fact...

JASON: I heard you smashing that keyboard from the other room! What's the deal?

ALLISON: Hold on. You two hang out and stay up late, right? When you're up at like midnight, does he ever talk about girls?

JASON: No, not at all.

ALLISON: Come on, never? Isn't that what guys talk about when they're alone, all the girls they claim they're banging?

JASON: Roderick isn't like that at all. And you know that, if you got to know him-

ALLISON: He doesn't want anyone to know him. Except for Carlie, and he's probably got her bent over a-

JASON: Is this because he's been hanging out at her house?

ALLISON: The empty house, with the parents who aren't there in the afternoon. Why...why did she have to pick Roderick? Of all the boys she could have...where are you going?

JASON: To talk to Roderick about it.

ALLISON: You think he's going to say anything? About his sex life, are you kidding? Anyway, there's only two types alive, the guys who lie about doing it and the ones who lie about not doing it.

JASON: Well, then I'm gonna go watch TV because I don't need to sit here just so you have someone to yell at.

ALLISON: All right, don't just ask him about it though. Hint around, be a little subtle or something. Trick him if you can.

JASON: You know, last time you were like this, you were telling me Carlie was going to mess Roderick up. What, is it the other way around now?

ALLISON: It's both. Jason...what happens if he gets her pregnant?

JASON: I don't know!

ALLISON: Well, what did his Dad do to his Mom? He ran out, right?

JASON: That's not what they told us! His Dad doesn't know-

ALLISON: Are you kidding, you bought that?

JASON: It happens!

ALLISON: Sure, with like one-night stands and stuff. They were a couple! They were together for like a year, and he leaves just when she gets pregnant and it's a coincidence? He ran out. What's his son gonna do?

JASON: I am not talking to you anymore.

ELEANOR: I'm home!

JASON: Just don't say anything if you know anything, okay? Hell...Hey, Ellie!

ELEANOR: Afternoon, Jason. Allison, hey! How was your day?

ALLISON: Uh, pretty good. Hey, can we talk for a minute?

ELEANOR: Of course. Actually, I've been meaning to say something to you...can I go first?

ALLISON: Sure, go ahead.

ELEANOR: Actually, I wanted to apologize for all these things I've been asking you to do. It wasn't appropriate for me to have you keeping tabs on Roderick like that, and he seems to be doing much better anyway. So don't feel like you need to keep doing that, it's okay.

ALLISON: Well, I kinda wanted to talk to you about Roderick.

ELEANOR: You don't need-

ALLISON: I know, but...well, this is actually more about my friend Carlie. He's been spending a lot of time with her.

ELEANOR: I know. Is something wrong?

ALLISON: It's just...has he said anything? About Carlie, I mean?

ELEANOR: He's said a few things, he's not really...oh, Roderick!

RODERICK: I was just finishing my homework and I forgot something in my bag.

ELEANOR: We were just talking about you and your...is it okay if I call her your girlfriend?

RODERICK: You mean Carlie?

ELEANOR: Yeah. How's that going?

RODERICK: We've been hanging out a little bit. That's not a problem, is it?

ELEANOR: Of course not. Oh, here's your bag, we won't embarrass you any more.

RODERICK: Thanks. I'll be out a little later.
